Frankie’s FirstOn the 2nd of June 2007 Lanfranco Dettori rode Authorized to victory in the world’s most prestigious horse race by an emphatic five-length margin. This painting portrays the moment when Dettori, having powered effortlessly clear of the field aboard the Montjeu colt, realises that nothing can stop him from winning the one title that has eluded him for so many years.
Bay LightningNewmarket Heath's Summer Canter is the setting for this spirited painting of a grey and bay horse being put through their paces, on an overcast English summer morning.
His Master’s ChoiceThis oil painting depicts a wise grey horse turned out in his favourite field. The horse finds himself yet again disturbed by that chocolate Labrador, who is the apple of their master’s eye. The grey therefore realises that he must watch the dog’s every playful move, to ensure that it is not he who ends up in trouble.
Grey LightningAt 20 by 24 inches this pencil drawing, which formed part of the preparatory work for the oil painting ‘Bay Lightning’, is an impressive size for something so detailed. Brett is often asked what manner of preparation is involved in his oil paintings. He was therefore keen to show this, the sort of art that must be produced before a canvas is ever lifted onto the easel.
GreyThis 20 by 16 inch equestrian portrait captures the warm personality and the subtlety in colour and coat of a grey at close quarters. A triumph of character and detail, it was commissioned by the horse’s owner.
Dawn RaiderThis beautiful piece of equestrian art is crafted in graphite pencil and measures 26 by 26 inches. As a preparatory piece for the oil painting Dawn Raid, this drawing was the final in a series of sketches made to ensure that the movement of these magnificent horses is captured with passion and accuracy.
