by Brett Lohn
Limited Edition Print - Panoramic Size
This larger size of print incorporates a greater area of the painting than the A2 print that is also available. Far more of the original painting can be seen in this print, adding to the drama and exhilaration that lies at the heart of racing at Cheltenham.
The inspiration behind the original oil painting was a desire to recreate the unique atmosphere of racing at Cheltenham Racecourse: the home of jump racing. Cleeve Hill is an ever-present guardian over events at Cheltenham, dominating the racecourse landscape. Whilst making the horses the subject of the painting, Brett has tried to give Cleeve Hill that same dominance over the viewer’s subconscious that one experiences in the flesh when attending a meeting there.
Brett’s philosophy when painting is that he wants to produce a window into a living, breathing world. There is nothing static, everything can be felt: from the excitement of the horses racing, to the temperature of the late January air. That is why it was so important, throughout the full year spent on the painting, for him to be able to work from life, bringing his easel repeatedly to the centre of the course.
The overall dimensions of this fine art print are approximately 950 x 537mm (37 x 21 inches), with the actual image measuring 850mm x 422mm ( 33.5 x 16.5 inches).
Only 50 copies of this panoramic size print will be published. Only 250 copies of the standard size print 'Spirit of Cheltenham' will be published. In total only 300 Limited Edition Prints (of any size) will be derived from this painting.
